7 Tips To Increase Your Water Intake

Your body weight is approximately 60 percent water. As your body loses water through breathing, sweating and digestion, it's important to re-hydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water.

  1. Eat your water - Most of your fluid needs are met through the water and beverages you drink. However, you can get some fluids through the foods that you eat as well. For example, broth soups and foods with high water content such as celery, zucchini, cucumber, tomatoes and melons
  2. Carry a water bottle with you -This is a great way to maintain your hydration level when doing outdoor activities or running errands. Aim for reusable bottles, and make sure they are BPA-free.
  3. Keep a bottle of water by your desk- If its next to you, you're more likely to drink it. This will keep you hydrated and reduce calories from snacks or soft drinks you may consume instead.
  4. Use an app to track your cups - Keeping up with how many glasses you’ve finished can be easy with the help of a free app like Daily Water Tracker.  Download them to your phone to set daily reminders and alarms.
  5. When your glass or bottle is empty, fill it back upMake it a rule, as soon as you finish your bottle you must fill it back up again.
  6. Add citrus. Adding a slice of orange, lemon or lime to your water may improve the taste and make you want to drink more water than you usually do.
  7. Consume fluids before you are thirsty - By the time you are thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. Use the colour of your urine as an indicator to know if you are drinking enough. Urine should be a pale-yellow colour. If you notice a darker yellow, you may need to increase your fluid intake.
